We're all familiar with energy drinks. These drinks have all the same goals...get your blood flowing and get you hyped! There is Redbull, Monster, ZOA, Ceslius, Bang and the list goes on. But have you come across this Dragon Ball Z energy drink at your local shops? According to the company that produces it, Boston America Corp., this is a magic cloud that transports you to more energy! But before you drop money on this drink, I'm going to break down what's actually in this Dragon Ball energy drink based on the nutrition labels then you can determine if this energy drink fits your needs.

What's an Energy Drink?

So, what's the official description of an energy drink? According to the CDC, energy drinks are beverages that typically contains large amounts of caffeine, added sugars, and legal stimulants such as guarana, tuarine and L-carnitine.


What's in the DBZ Energy Drink?

Below are the notable ingredients listed on the nutrition label for this Dragon Ball Z Energy Drink. Just to quickly remind you warriors, the FDA has not imposed any specific restrictions or requirements on the sale or labeling of energy drinks beyond what's required for other conventional foods and beverages. Essentially, this means that there can be questionable ingredients or a prodigious amount of an ingredient that can be contraindicated and harmful to a warriors health.

Now that we have a list of ingredients from this Dragon Ball Z energy drink, below are brief details on the roles of each ingredient and how it can effect the body.


Sodium - Maintains fluid balance between water and minerals, nerve impulses and muscle contractions.


  • Downfall - too much sodium can cause high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.


Carbohydrates - Provide energy, store energy and spares protein from being used as an energy source.


  • Downfall - Too much carb consumption can cause weight gain, lethargyness and increase risk of heart disease.


Sugar - Associated with glucose and providing energy, sugar can also provide a dopamine rush.


  • Downfall - Similar to the risks of eating too many carbs.


Potassium - Maintains cell's fluids, promotes muscle contractions, sends nerve signals and supports normal blood pressure.


  • Downfall - Too much potassium can effect your kidneys and can cause heart palpitations, shortness of breath and possibly heart damage.


Vitamin B3 - Converts food into energy.


  • Downfall - Some side effects of too much Vitamin B3 can include stomach discomfort, diarrhea or headaches.


Vitamin B5 - Breaks down fat and carbohydrates to produce energy.


  • Downfall - Some side effects of too much Vitamin B5 can include stomach discomfort and diarrhea.


Vitamin B6 - Supports normal brain development and keeps the nervous and immune system healthy.


  • Downfall - Some side effects of too much Vitamin B6 can include hearetburn, nausea, and numbness.


Vitamin B12 - Red blood cell formation, cell metabolism and nerve function.


  • Downfall - Some side effects of too much Vitamin B12 can include headache, nausea, vomitting, diarrhea or fatigue.


Taurine - Amino acid that supports electrolyte balance, energy production, blood pressure reduction and forms bile salts that play a role in digestion.


  • Downfall - Although more research is still due, excessive consumption may cause stomach discomfort and headaches.


Caffeine - Although no explanation is needed here, caffeine is a stimulant that affects the brain and nervous system that increases circulation of cortisol and adrenaline which can incraese energy.


  • Downfall - Caffeine may help us feel more energized, however excessive caffeine consumption may cause anxiety, irritability, stomach issues, dehydration and may effect regular breath control.


Ginseng Root Extract - May boost energy, reduce inflammation and lower blood sugar.


  • Downfall - Too much consumption of ginseng root may cause an allergic reaction, change in blood pressure, genital bleeding, diarrhea and mania.


Guarana Seed Extract - Because gaurana is used mainly as an alternative source of caffeine, this can be considered a stimulant for the body.


  • Downfall - In high doses, gaurana see extract can cause tremors, agitation, hypertension and dehydration.


Are Energy Drinks Healthy?

Energy drinks are not recommended for a healthy diet. Although, an energy drink or two may not be harmful, excessive consumption can cause anxiety, insomnia and raise blood pressure and heart rate which can increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes.


Alternative Habits to Increase Energy Levels:

Simply drink more water.

Sip on black tea or coffee with minimal additives.

Drink fresh juice.

Mid-day meditation.

Nap for 15-30 minutes.


Final Thoughts

As a reminder, I am not a registered dietitian and I cannot tell you if such energy drink should be consumed or not. However, I can say balance is important when it comes to nutrition; in other words, consuming too much of one thing can be questionable for your health. Finally, everyone is different and reactions to energy drinks will not be the same across the board. I tried this energy drink myself and it did give me a short boost of energy but not the Saiyan energy I was expecting and although, I do love Dragon Ball, this was not the best tasting energy drink and my energy boost was followed up with a headache. As for now, I will continue to consume my simple iced, black coffee when I am in need of a boost of energy.
